anew A term used to describe something that is new, but actually has a lot of flaws.  ■ "I'm trying to learn how to code, but every time I try, my program ends up doing the exact opposite of what I want it to do. Oh well, I guess learning to code is just a matter of trying again... and again... and again!

bestseller A book, product, or service that is extremely popular and sells very well.  ■ "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown was such a bestseller, it's now being adapted into a movie!

Comply To follow a set of rules or regulations, often reluctantly or begrudgingly.  ■ "I'll comply with the dress code, but I'm not happy about it."

constitute to form the whole or a part of something; to make up a total  ■ The six numbers that make up the combination lock constitute its secret code.

Deciphering The act of figuring out a code or message that has been written in a language other than one's own.  ■ "I can't believe I wasted two hours trying to decipher the hieroglyphics on the ancient Egyptian tomb!"

Decoder A device or machine that can decode a message, code or signal.  ■ The secret society of cryptographers had to use their decoder to unlock the hidden message in the ancient Mayan hieroglyphs.

disciplinary A person who is in charge of enforcing rules and regulations.  ■ "The disciplinary officer made sure that all students followed the dress code."

Eliminates To make someone or something disappear entirely, usually through death or destruction.  ■ "I told you that I would eliminate all the bugs in my code. Now it's running smoother than ever!

Ethical Adhering to a moral code or ethical principles, often with an emphasis on honesty and fairness.  ■ "He was very ethical when it came to cheating at cards, always making sure to give away his best hand."

module A small, self-contained unit of code that performs a specific function or set of functions.  ■ Why did the module cross the road? To get to the other side!

morales A person's moral character or code of conduct.  ■ "Well, I may have a low morales but at least my hair looks good."

Purview The area of knowledge, interest, or authority that is within the scope of someone's expertise or experience.  ■ "I may not have a purview in computer science, but I can still teach you how to code!"

rebelling The act of publicly declaring one's lack of conformity to societal norms or expectations.  ■ "I am rebelling against the dress code by wearing my favorite t-shirt with a funny meme on it."

Refining The process of making something better, but in a way that makes it even more complex or difficult to understand.  ■ "I'm refining my code by adding more comments and making it harder for anyone else to read."

Rephrase To restate something in a different, often more entertaining or humorous way.  ■ "I don't understand this math problem." Reworded: "This math problem is so confusing, I think it must be written in code from an alien civilization!"

Technicality A trivial or minute detail, often used to confuse or annoy someone.  ■ When the manager brought up the technicality of the company's dress code policy, I knew he was just trying to cover his tracks.

unlocking The act of revealing a secret or hidden truth by cracking a code or solving a riddle.  ■ "I unlocked the mystery of the missing treasure by deciphering the ancient map's cryptic symbols."

violating To engage in behavior that is considered unacceptable, such as breaking rules or regulations.  ■ "I accidentally violated the dress code at the formal event by wearing jeans and a t-shirt."

coded A message or information that has been deliberately disguised, often by using a code or language that is only understood by a select group of people.  ■ The secret society's coded messages were deciphered by the investigators, revealing their illegal activities.

codes A set of instructions or symbols used to communicate with one another, especially in a secret or coded manner. However, these instructions are often so ridiculous that they are more likely to be misunderstood than understood.  ■ "I'm sorry, I can't understand what you're saying because it's all in code. Could you please translate it into plain English?"

conform To act or appear in accordance with a certain standard, law, or expectation.  ■ John decided to conform to the dress code of the office by wearing a tie and slacks, even though he had always been more of a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy.

Cypher A person who uses a cipher to decrypt secret messages.  ■ The cypher was able to crack the code of the secret society and reveal all their plans. A person who is very intelligent or knowledgeable about a certain subject or area of study.  ■ "I'm just a cypher when it comes to history, but I can tell you that the ancient Egyptians were really into math."

decipher To unravel the mysteries of a cryptic message, code or language. It's like trying to make sense of your grandmother's jokes.  ■ "The mathematician was able to decipher the equation and solve it in record time.", "When I finally deciphered my cousin's inside joke, I burst out laughing."

Defiance The act of intentionally disobeying or resisting someone who has authority, usually in a humorous way.  ■ "John's defiance to his boss's strict dress code by wearing a neon green shirt and tie every Monday was not only hilarious but also very effective in getting him noticed."

disdain A feeling of extreme contempt or disapproval for something or someone.  ■ "I can't believe she had the audacity to wear that outfit to the job interview. It was such a clear sign of her utter disdain for the company's dress code."

ethics A set of moral principles or values that guide a person's behavior and decision-making.  ■ The politician was forced to resign after it was discovered that he had been selling his influence for personal gain, which goes against his stated ethical code.

Fairness A quality or state of being equal in treatment or opportunity. However, when applied to someone who is naturally unattractive, it's actually a code word for "mediocrity".  ■ "I may not be the most attractive person in the room, but I always strive for fairness in all my interactions."

GYMS A place where people go to exercise, sweat, and look good in front of other people.  ■ I went to the gym to work out, but I realized I was the only one wearing sweatpants. I guess some people take "dress code" very seriously.

hackman A person who is extremely concerned with the rules and regulations of their workplace or community.  ■ She was known as the "Hackman" of the office because she would always make sure everyone followed the dress code and used the correct paperclips.

inspections A series of visits by a government official to check for any illegal activities or code violations.  ■ "Why did the builder have so many inspections? Because he didn't want to risk getting caught building his dream home on a foundation of lies."

java A programming language that is so complex and confusing, it makes even the most intelligent programmers feel like they're in over their heads.  ■ "I can't figure out why my Java code keeps crashing. It's like a black hole of confusion swallowed everything I thought I knew about programming."

locks A device used to secure doors and windows by twisting a key or using a code.  ■ John had trouble remembering his lock combination, so he wrote it down on a sticky note and stuck it to the door. Unfortunately, he forgot the sticky note was also covered in cat hair and the lock still wouldn't budge.

loophole An intentional or accidental opening in a system, rule, or law that can be exploited to gain an advantage or evade a consequence.  ■ "Did you know there's a loophole in the tax code that allows you to claim a deduction for eating ice cream? Just tell the IRS you're doing it for medical reasons."

Menu A list of dishes and drinks that are available for ordering at a restaurant or bar. The menu also includes information such as prices, ingredients, and cooking methods.  ■ The waiter handed us the menu, which looked like it was written in code. It took us ten minutes to figure out what we wanted to eat, and when we finally did, the chef had already retired for the night.

moral A person's sense of right and wrong, or their code of conduct. Often used to describe someone who is very good, but also very boring.  ■ "I don't know why Sarah always insists on doing the right thing. It's like she has some sort of moral compass that guides her every move."

programming The art of teaching computers to perform tasks by writing code in a language that the computer can understand.  ■ "I'm really good at programming, I can make a computer do anything!", "But then I realized that the computer was just following my instructions and not actually understanding what it was doing."

smarts A mysterious and inexplicable quality possessed by some people, which makes them appear to be extremely intelligent but is actually just a result of sheer luck or happenstance.  ■ "Despite having no actual knowledge or experience in the field, Jane somehow always manages to give off an air of genius whenever it comes to coding. It's like she was born with some sort of special code-writing smarts!

terminology A collection of words and phrases used in a specific field or by a particular group, often characterized by their specialized meanings.  ■ When the computer programmer tried to explain his code to his grandmother, he realized she didn't understand any of his terminology. So, he had to break it down into simpler terms like "on" and "off".

variant A type of something that is different from the standard or normal version, often in a humorous way.  ■ The new CEO decided to make the company more "fun" by implementing a "variant" of the usual dress code - employees were allowed to wear clown suits every Friday.
